A step by step guide on perfecting your video conference from home.
Are you ready for your first video conference at home? Here are some tips on preparing so that your first try goes as smoothly as possible.
A hardwired connection helps to avoid a poor or inconsistent connection and ensures good quality.
If possible, try to be in a space where you can close the door. You don’t want to be interrupted by noises, family members, or pets.
Spend a minute tidying up the space that will be visible behind you. You do not want your audience to be distracted by a mess behind you. Also, remove anything that may be deemed inappropriate.
This limits how much of your background is visible to others.
Focus just on your upper torso in the picture. Leave a slight space above the head. Leave a slight space on both sides of your arms.
Dress professionally, with hair neatly done. Make sure the lighting in your space is working in your favour. Sit with a window in front of you. Never sit with a window behind you!
Before your interview, test your audio and video to make sure they’re on and working. Have a practice call with an internal co-worker who can give you feedback on your setup, appearance, and how you carry yourself.
